Dr Ali was recently in Germany for talks with European counterparts on furthering foreign, security and economic relations. Held at the Akademie of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, he participated in a panel discussion entitled A Common Agenda For European-Gulf Cooperation. During the visit, he met with key parliamentarians advancing key issues of common interest to the two countries and wider region. As a keynote speaker, Dr Ali addressed the need for common understanding even through differences across social and cultural values. “The relationship between our governments is great, it is flourishing and on the right path, but it’s important we have a sustainable relationship,” he said.“Parliamentary diplomacy is effective and creates a better understanding between both sides of those people critical in decision making. I think it’s very important to develop this relationship in active parliamentary diplomacy. What we are asking is acceptance of the differences in values. This is what builds a sustainable relationship. Working together will create friendship, it will build bridges of trust and respect and that will lead to sustainable engagement.”
